DAY FIVE: Selected Poems by Mac Maclean

The Prevention
erasure from The Prevention: Get Thin, Get Young Plan

Get Thin, get your life
around somebody you love or
you hate, just because
you are not interested in yourself. you go
to the parking lot at work
and definitely cry.
you’ll figure out how to live without someone
else’s image of who you should be—forever.
am I so confident

Goals:
approach that hunger during the
blood moving time.
lose the whole family
to exercises.
I know it’s so good.
so much healthier.

what happens

we break people
feel lost lost lost
nervous
eat-cookies-and-
start-peeling-away

here’s the great news:
this is all you want
that you have.

Results:
body lost. in
the morning
and evening
I walked farther.
I am lost I am
not tired

DAYS THREE & FOUR: Selected Poems by Mac Maclean

body I try

can’t leave you or.
left once. hated that.
those hours above you.
to be a part removed and waiting.
between inside you and between God.
from there the inside of you looked empty
and God also. and I was just trying
trying to get back in you

where being inside you can feel so full of holding a dead woman’s hand.
imagine I am.
except I am the dead woman
and I’m holding her
a little bit all the time

___

see through

I’m in
side you.
Nothing sexy
this time.
You’re just dead now.
Like I knew you
were. This time with
my hand
fallen
through your cheek. I
only wanted
to hold on like
before.

You as a trail
of smoke in the
bedroom. Face once
on fire. Hands once
on fire.

Me a river
valley in the
bedroom.
Mountains crying
into themselves.

DAY TWO: Selected Poems by Mac Maclean

draft #3

Hey,
Yesterday I cut flowers
and shoved them into your paper shredder
because I am going to hell anyway
so I thought
Why not.
And it smelled good in a funny way.
It was sticky in a way I expected.
And it’s broken, no doubt.
It didn’t make me miss you less, and
I doubt it will make you miss me more. Well,
actually, I just read that it’s impossible.

In fact, I just read that since you are dead
I will have to buy a new paper shredder.

DAY ONE: Selected Poems by Mac Maclean

full on heart stuff

get in on this.
who hasn’t?
I’m asleep and in on it.
dad is on a table
without a chest.
it is open instead.
I don’t really know that but it has to be
dad on the table
the doctor holding a paring knife.
he is ready to rumble.
what does he think dads are replaceable
seasonal like pears or peaches
but no one is about to tell him the knife is wrong.
every surgery he’s ever had happens at the same time.
like the eyeball one. I don’t like to think about it
but I liked the emails he sent after
“very ard to tpe his way. yoiur old da wll get bettre.”
then heart blockage removal surgery
which is a surgery they do so you are ready
for more of them later
or so you are ready.
and the oral ones. the gold-looking tooth from the military
days he prayed for the dead and his tooth rotted.
oops he says about it.
he is going to die
but not right now.
and me too honestly.
who hasn’t.
you have to get in on this
God says to everybody at the beginning
and no one is about to tell Him the knife is wrong
